Cancellation Policy
1. Standard Cancellation Policy
- 60+ days before check-in: 90% refund of the reservation deposit.
- 30–60 days before check-in: 50% refund of the deposit.
- Less than 30 days before check-in: No refund of the first month’s rent/deposit.
2. Extenuating Circumstances Policy (The “Override”) In the event of unforeseen circumstances beyond a User’s control, this policy takes precedence over the standard policy. Portugal Renting may issue a full or partial refund if the reservation is made impracticable or illegal by:
- Government Travel Requirements: Unexpected changes to visa or passport requirements (excluding lost/expired documents).
- Declared Emergencies & Epidemics: Local or national emergencies declared by the Portuguese government. This does not include endemic diseases (e.g., common seasonal flu).
- Military Actions & Hostilities: Acts of war, terrorism, or civil unrest in the property location.
- Natural Disasters: Acts of God, volcanic eruptions, or large-scale utility outages. This does not include foreseeable weather.
3. What is NOT Covered Cancellations for the following reasons are strictly governed by the Standard Policy (Section 1):
- Personal illness, injury, or unexpected disease.
- Government obligations (jury duty, court appearances).
- Transportation disruptions (flight/train cancellations) unrelated to a covered Event.
- Non-binding travel advisories.
4. Claims & Documentation To claim a refund under Extenuating Circumstances, the User must contact Portugal Renting within 48 hours of the event and provide official documentation (e.g., government decree, medical-legal certificate in specific cases).
5. Refund Timeline Refunds are processed immediately. Funds typically appear in the original payment method within 3-15 days, depending on the bank and country of origin.
